Embracing Mistakes

Guest Post by Paula

I want to become a better weaver this year, which means working on two things. The first is to stay more focused on all the preliminary phases of weaving: winding the warp, tying on, threading and sleying correctly, and having even tension on both beams. The second thing I’m working on is embracing my mistakes when I’m at a point in a project that I can’t easily go back and make corrections.

A good example of this is my latest project where I had too few heddles on shafts three and four, and had to decide how to manage that. Rather than trying to add more heddles – which is a nightmare – I decided to adjust my threading. What I ended up with was two sections threaded 1,2,1,2; two sections that were threaded 1,2,3,4; and my middle panel was threaded for a Huck lace pattern . And I loved the finished project!
