agenda, rigid heddle, Show & Tell

12/1/18

Agenda

Even with the grey skies, we accomplished much at our last Guild meeting. First off we have a slate of officers that are eager for the 2019 year. Here are the Board Officers:

  • President-Mary
  • Vice President/Program Coordinator-Kathleen
  • Treasurer/Membership-Sherry
  • Secretary-Patty
  • Past President-Sue
  • ANWG Contact-Tanya

The guild has purchased a rigid heddle loom (approximately 15 1/2″ wide). This is the perfect size for towels/scarves/etc. The guild also purchased an additional 10″ dent & and 8″ dent. The loom was warped at our meeting and Kathleen won the drawing to take it home to weave the towels (from the program). Can’t wait to see the finished towels.

ANWG will be having their next Confluence conference at Prince George, BC. This will be held on 6/11-6/16/19.

Show & Tell

Once again, it is so inspiring to see what our members are doing. Sherry brought in a ‘gifted’ estate sale sweater that she is felting and turning into fingerless mitts.

She also brought in a sock blank that was dyed using foam paint brushes, pipettes, and a spray bottle.

Kathleen brought in a beautifully crafted pocket wheel.

Debbie was busy this year. Not only did she have towels, she wove ornaments for members and made a woven basket to hold the ornaments.

With the guild members demonstrating the craft, River Academy sent a lovely thank you card book. Here are 2 examples from the book. Reading the one note, I can identify the first time I got to tour Debbie’s studio.

Program

Debbie continued with her program on weaving towels on the rigid heddle loom. She demonstrated warping the loom. As usual, weavers are great problem solvers. By using rubber bands, warping the loom became much easier.
